When Celia is not artfully lobbing metal spheres around the gravel, you can find her giving management consultancy advice to charities, writing business plans and fundraising. She’s a big fan of the good work and social impact that the charity sector brings to the wellbeing of Bath, so she loves the privilege of being a trustee of the Bath Boules Charitable Trust in order to help them further. Celia’s perfect aim and trophy cabinet is a work in progress, honed by 6 hours spent every week in the YMCA gym and short runs through Hedgemead Park.

David lived in Bath for 22 years, and was editor of the then-daily Bath Chronicle for 11 of them. He now works for a charity on the English Riviera in South Devon and lives in the fishing town of Brixham, which gives him walking access to both the South West Coast path and the moors. Despite being a trustee for the best part of 25 years, he remains a dreadful boules player.

Playing boules for 25 years and being passionate about the Bath Boules Tournament doesn’t necessarily make you a great player – as Lizzie Heffer can demonstrate. However, it’s all about the taking part that really matters and Lizzie will always throw herself into the Boules Tournament with gusto. And now, as a trustee of the Bath Boules Charitable Trust, Lizzie’s dedication to the event is even greater. Lizzie said “As Trustees, we see the positive impact made to local charities by funds from the Bath Boules. And the Tournament is so very Bath – it’s fun, it’s about community, networking, charitable giving and just a little bit bonkers.”

As a local GP, I appreciate the importance of local Charities to support those living in Bath. I enjoy visiting local charities and understanding their aims and impact. Having attended the first Bath Boules tournament 32 years ago, and now as a Trustee, I appreciate the success of the event, raising money for local Charities.

Philip was one of the founders of the event in the 1980’s when he was the owner of the Great Western Wine Company in Bath. Since selling the wine company in 2010 he has been a trustee at a number of local charities including the Theatre Royal, Julian House and the Royal United Hospital and a Governor at St Mark’s School. Having seen Bath Boules grow and flourish over the past 40 years he is keen to help it continue to provide a benefit to the local community while giving pleasure to so many participants for many years to come.

Thomas is a practising solicitor with a regional law firm. In 2021 he was the 960th High Sheriff of Somerset and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset in 2022. Throughout his working life he has been actively involved with charities and not for profit organisations mainly in the local area. His involvement with the Bath Boules started as a player but since 2000 he has been closely involved with the Bath Boules charity mainly as a trustee.
